The Annual VAG Book Sale
September 22 & 23
Check out the VAG’s book sale–a great opportunity to find out-of-print and nearly new art books, exhibition catalogues and collectible items for your personal bookshelf or for your bibliophile friends and family. While you’re at the gallery you may as well check out the Cabin Fever exhibit, on until September 30th.
Leon Bridges – Good Thing Tour
There are lots of great concerts in September, but this is by far the one I’m most excited for. If you haven’t listened to Leon yet, prepare to fail in love. Perfect tunes to set on repeat as summer draws to an end.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night
September 6 – October 7
‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night’ is one of my favourite novels, so I was a bit nervous to go see the play in London a couple years back. Fortunately, my fears were completely unfounded. The play totally does the brilliant story justice. If you haven’t read the book, do so, you still have time. Then go watch the play–it’s on until October! A play by Simon Stephens adapted from the novel by Mark Haddon.
A brief synopsis…
15-year-old Christopher Boone has a unique perspective. He is incredibly talented at math, but never ventures beyond his street and strongly distrusts strangers. When his neighbour’s dog is killed, Christopher challenges his own barriers to uncover the truth about the dog, his family, and himself. Peek inside his mind as this incomparable show tests the boundaries of imagination and physical space.
As the sun goes down, the fun goes up. Flow into the night with some world-class yoga, led by Janet Stone, then dance the night away with Diplo and Felix Cartal. Walk around, behold the installations, breathe in the surrounding nature, and be sure to check out the artisan market featuring some of our favourite local vendors. Whether you’ve run the Seawheeze half marathon or not, the Sunset Festival is a beautiful event that takes place in an absolutely stunning Vancouver setting. Definitely worth checking out! (general admission $45)
Vancouver International Film Festival
September 27 – October 12
Always inspiring. I swear every year I plan to see a million films and only make it to one or two. The full program drops September 6th, I’m going to be ready this time, cannot wait to schedule in as many films as I can manage!
