Our Guiding Principles
Well kept was founded because we wanted a more sustainable alternative to plastic disposable razors. A simple idea in theory, but the intricacies of everything we do to align with our values run deep. We encourage thoughtful consumption, intentional rituals, and a deeper awareness of the impact our products have on both people and the planet. As we grow as a brand and community, we remain grounded in our foundations and are guided by our three core principles: better for you, sustainability made, and built on trust.
Better for You
We create products that are better for you through thoughtful design, natural ingredients, and beautiful functionality.
Better shaving - Our safety razor is designed to provide a smoother shave while helping reduce irritation, razor burn, and ingrown hairs. (link to razor page or blog)
Better Ingredients - (link to glossary or blog). We use natural, plant-based ingredients that are carefully selected for both their effectiveness and their minimal impact on the environment. Every ingredient serves a purpose and is chosen to support the health of your body, mind, and the planet.
Better Rituals - We believe care can be more than a routine—it can be a ritual. Our products are designed to encourage slower living, mindfulness, and intentional moments of self-care.
Glossary of IngredientsSustainably Made
Throughout everything we do, reducing our impact on the planet is the grounding principle we focus on.
Sustainable Shaving - Not shaving is the most sustainable option, but if you choose to remove your body hair, our sustainable self-care essentials are the next best thing. Our safety razor is designed to last a lifetime, and our replacement blades are completely plastic-free.
Sustainable by Design - We create products that prioritize longevity, refillability, and waste reduction at every stage of their lifecycle. From sourcing materials and designing low-waste packaging to considering a product's recyclability, refillability, and circularity.
Sustainable Packaging - Our packaging is made from recyclable materials, FSC-certified paper, and innovative materials like mycelium (that’s a fancy word for mushroom). We choose glass over plastic whenever possible because it can be reused, refilled, and recycled more effectively while bringing lasting beauty to your home. We ship our orders completely plastic free.
Built on Trust
We want to be open, honest and accountable with what we’re doing and how we could do better.
Depth in Decisions - Months of research, testing, and education go into every product we create. While there is always more work to be done, we strive to make decisions that minimize environmental impact without compromising quality, performance, or design.
Transparency Along the Way - We're committed to sharing our journey openly—the successes, the challenges, and the opportunities to improve.
Collaborative Growth - We choose to share what we're learning about sustainability, self-care, and conscious living because we believe learning is better when it's done together and our collective impact is stronger than individual.
Measuring our Impact
Our self-care essentials are made with intention from product design to usage to how they are disposed of at end of life. We broke our commitments into five areas – made without, sustainable packaging, ethical production, resue/refill and end of life – explore what that means below and on each of our product pages.
The beauty industry – and even many ‘clean’ beauty products – contain synthetic and chemical ingredients with names you don’t recognize and benefits that are unclear. We only use natural, plant-based, ingredients, carefully chosen for their minimal impact on the earth and the bountiful benefits they offer your body and mind.
Lots of plastic wrapping; giant boxes for tiny objects; dare we say it, styrofoam. The beauty and wellness industries are huge contributors to plastic waste—but it doesn’t need to be this way. Our packaging is made from recyclable materials, FSC-certified paper, and organic materials like mycelium (that’s a fancy word for mushroom). On all of our packaging and shipping materials, we’ll clearly tell you what it is and how you can recycle or reuse it.
Some things seem so obvious to us that we forget to mention it: like the fact we’d never (ever) test our products on animals, or that we know exactly where each product comes from and who made, packaged, and shipped it. We believe deeply in providing fair wages, good working environments, and offering our employees flexibility and compassion in that challenging space where life and work meet. We also partner with organizations like the Stewardship Program that provides free meals to children who experience food insecurity in Mexico, with the production of our agave cloths and soap savers.
Where possible we offer bulk refill options of our products so that when you finish the original, you can refill the vessel over and over again. Reducing the amount of waste created which each product used. And if we don't have a refill option, we have recommendations on how to reuse or recycle the packaging.
We take responsibility for the impact our products leave on the earth—that’s why we only use natural, plant-based ingredients and packaging that can be composted, recycled or reused. Waste is a bad word in our studio so we’re always looking for new ways to repurpose, recycle, or reuse, and we hope you’ll do the same.
Growing and Evolving
Well Kept is a small brand that’s always growing, evolving, and striving to do better in every aspect. One thing we have learned is that you will never get it perfect the first time, but we do believe in continually learning, adapting, and improving. Whether we're evaluating packaging materials, sourcing new suppliers, refining our formulations, or finding better ways to educate our community, we're always looking for opportunities to do better — we are always striving to do better for us and the planet. We celebrate every body and every story. Regardless of gender, race, sexuality, culture, age, or body type, we believe self-care should be inclusive, accessible, and empowering. We welcome meaningful conversations and strive to amplify diverse perspectives within our community.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. Together, we're building a future that is more intentional, more sustainable, and more connected—for ourselves, our communities, and the planet.
