Agave Fiber

Biodegradable plant-based fibre made from the agave plant. Agave has
traditionally been used to make strong natural fibres for products such as
brushes and ropes.

Aloe Vera

Baking Soda

Bergamot

Castor Oil
A rich, plant-derived oil that helps moisturize, soften and condition the skin. Its thick texture makes it particularly useful for helping skin feel smooth and nourished.

Chamomile
A flowering botanical traditionally valued for its calming and soothing properties. Chamomile can help comfort sensitive or irritated-feeling skin while providing a gentle botanical addition to skincare.

Citric Acid
A naturally occurring acid found in citrus fruits. In skincare, citric acid can help maintain a product's desired pH and provides gentle exfoliating properties when used at appropriate concentrations.

Coco Glucoside
A plant-derived, biodegradable cleansing ingredient made from coconut and glucose. It provides gentle cleansing and helps remove dirt and oils from the skin without relying on harsher cleansing agents.

Coconut Milk
A creamy ingredient derived from coconut that can help leave skin feeling soft and conditioned. It is particularly well suited to nourishing and moisturizing bath rituals.

Coconut Oil
A plant-based oil rich in fatty acids that helps moisturize, soften and nourish the skin. It can help support the skin's moisture barrier and leave skin feeling smooth and supple.

Decyl Glucoside
A gentle, plant-derived cleanser made from glucose and plant-based fatty alcohols. It helps remove dirt, oils and impurities from the skin while creating a light, gentle lather.

Essential Oils
Concentrated aromatic oils extracted from plants. Beyond their natural aromas, different essential oils are traditionally valued for properties such as soothing, refreshing, grounding or uplifting the skin and senses.

Epsom Salts
A mineral salt made of magnesium sulfate. Added to bath water, Epsom salts create a soothing and relaxing bathing experience and can leave skin feeling soft and refreshed.

Frankincense
An aromatic essential oil traditionally valued for its grounding, calming scent. Frankincense is also valued in skincare for its conditioning and soothing properties.

Glycerin
A humectant that helps attract and retain moisture in the skin. It helps keep skin feeling hydrated, soft and comfortable without leaving behind a heavy or greasy feeling.

Grapeseed Oil
A lightweight plant-based oil pressed from grape seeds. It is rich in fatty acids and absorbs readily into the skin, helping to moisturize, soften and condition without a heavy feel.

Jojoba Oil
A lightweight botanical oil with a composition similar to some of the skin's naturally occurring oils. It helps moisturize, soften and condition the skin while leaving a smooth, non-heavy feel.

Lavender
A botanical essential oil known for its soft, floral aroma and calming properties. Lavender is valued for helping create a soothing skincare experience and is traditionally used to comfort the skin.

Marula Oil
A nourishing plant oil rich in fatty acids and antioxidants. It helps moisturize, soften and condition the skin while providing a lightweight, silky feel.

Natural Fragrance
Scent created using naturally derived aromatic ingredients, such as essential oils or botanical extracts. Natural fragrances can provide a sensory experience without relying solely on synthetic fragrance compounds.

Natural Ingredients
Ingredients sourced from naturally occurring materials such as plants, minerals and other natural sources. Natural ingredients can provide cleansing, moisturizing, conditioning and aromatic benefits to the skin.

Peppermint
A refreshing essential oil with a naturally cooling and invigorating aroma. Peppermint creates a fresh sensory experience and is traditionally valued for its refreshing and cleansing properties.

Rose
A botanical ingredient and essential oil traditionally associated with soothing and nourishing skincare. Rose is valued for its gentle, floral aroma and its ability to create a calming, luxurious sensory experience.

Safflower Oil
A lightweight plant-based oil rich in fatty acids that helps moisturize, soften and condition the skin. Its light texture makes it well suited to nourishing skin without a heavy or greasy feel.

Shea Butter
A plant-derived butter rich in fatty acids that helps deeply moisturize, soften and condition the skin. It helps support the skin's moisture barrier and is particularly beneficial for dry-feeling skin.

Tea Tree Oil
An essential oil traditionally valued for its cleansing and purifying properties. It provides a fresh botanical aroma and can be a useful ingredient in skincare designed for blemish-prone or congested-feeling skin.

Vanilla
A warm, sweet botanical aroma that creates a comforting and soothing sensory experience. Vanilla is primarily valued in skincare for its aromatic properties and the warm, inviting feeling it brings to a ritual.

Artificial Colours
Synthetic colourants added to give products a particular colour. Well Kept avoids artificial colours in its formulas.

Cocamide EDTA
A synthetic ingredient used in some cleansing and foaming products. Well Kept specifically formulates its Bubble Bath without cocamide EDTA.

Parabens
A group of synthetic preservatives commonly used to extend the shelf life of cosmetics and personal care products. Well Kept products are formulated without parabens.

Palm Oil
An oil derived from the fruit of oil palm trees and widely used in cosmetics and personal care. Well Kept does not use palm oil in its Hand & Body Wash formulations.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
A synthetic cleansing and foaming ingredient commonly used in soaps, shampoos and body washes. Well Kept specifically avoids SLES in its Bubble Bath formulations.

Synthetic Fragrance
Lab-created fragrance ingredients used to scent personal care products. Well Kept uses essential oils rather than synthetic fragrances to create its scents.

Synthetic Ingredients
Ingredients created or heavily modified through synthetic processes. Well Kept's philosophy is to choose recognizable, natural, plant-based ingredients whenever possible.

Blade Bank
A purpose-built container for safely collecting used razor blades. Our Blade Bank program allows customers to send their used stainless steel blades back to be recycled.

Disposable Razor
A razor designed to be thrown away after a limited number of uses. Disposable razors can create ongoing plastic and metal waste.

Double-Edge Blade
A thin, replaceable blade with two sharp edges. Double-edge safety razor blades eliminate the need to throw away an entire plastic cartridge when the blade becomes dull.

Exfoliation
The process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. We recommend gentle exfoliation before shaving to help unclog pores and soften hair.

Ingrown Hair
A hair that curls or grows back into the skin instead of growing outward. Ingrown hairs can cause bumps, redness and irritation.

Multi-Blade Cartridge
A disposable razor cartridge containing multiple blades.

Plastic Razor Waste
The waste created by disposable and cartridge razors, which can contain a combination of plastic, metal and other materials that make them difficult to recycle.

Razor Angle
The angle at which the razor and blade meets your skin. We recommend keeping the safety razor at approximately 30 degrees or less and letting the blade do the work rather than applying pressure.

Razor Blade Recycling
The process of collecting and processing used razor blades so the metal can potentially be recovered rather than sent directly to landfill. A blade bank provides a safe way to collect used blades until they can be recycled.

Razor Burn
Skin irritation that can occur after shaving, often appearing as redness, sensitivity or a burning sensation. Using a sharp blade, minimal pressure and proper lubrication can help reduce irritation.

Razor Pressure
The amount of force applied while shaving. Unlike disposable razors, our weighted brass safety razor is designed to glide across the skin without pressing down.

Safety Razor
A reusable razor designed to hold a replaceable, single double-edge blade. Our safety razor has a weighted brass handle and is designed to last a lifetime with proper care.

Shave Oil
A lubricating oil applied to the skin before shaving. It creates a smoother surface between the blade and skin while helping moisturize and protect the skin.

Shave Soap
A cleansing, lathering product designed specifically for shaving - creates a light lather that helps its safety razor glide over the skin.

Shaving Against the Grain
Shaving in the opposite direction of hair growth. While it can provide an especially close shave, it can also increase irritation for some people.

Shaving With the Grain
Shaving in the same direction that the hair naturally grows. Well Kept recommends starting with the grain because shaving against it can be harsher on the skin.

Sustainable Shaving
A shaving approach that reduces waste by choosing durable, reusable tools and products. A safety razor with replaceable metal blades is one alternative to disposable plastic cartridge razors.

Biodegradable
A material that can naturally break down through biological processes over time. The speed and conditions required for biodegradation vary depending on the material and environment.

Biodegradable vs. Compostable
Biodegradable materials can naturally break down through microorganisms over time, while compostable materials are designed to break down into natural materials under specific composting conditions. Not everything labelled biodegradable is necessarily home-compostable.

Carbon Footprint
The total amount of greenhouse gas emissions created by a product, activity or business. It can include emissions from sourcing ingredients, manufacturing, transportation, packaging and disposal.

Circular Economy
An economic approach that keeps products and materials in use for as long as possible through reuse, repair, refill, remanufacturing and recycling, rather than following a "make, use, throw away" model.

Circularity
Designing products and materials so they remain useful for as long as possible through reuse, refill, repair, recycling or other recovery systems.

Compostable
A material that can break down into organic matter under appropriate composting conditions. We use compostable materials such as our mycelium packaging insert and cork bath milk stopper.

Conscious Consumption
Making purchasing decisions based on the longevity, materials, ingredients, production and environmental impact of a product—not simply its price or convenience.

Conscious Consumer
Someone who considers factors beyond price and convenience when making purchases, including a product's ingredients, materials, durability, production and environmental impact.

Durable
Made to withstand repeated use over an extended period. Choosing durable products can reduce the need to continually replace disposable alternatives.

End of Life
What happens to a product or its packaging once it is no longer being used. We consider end of life during product development, with our products designed to be reused, recycled, composted or returned where possible.

End-of-Life
The stage when a product is no longer wanted or usable. Thinking about end-of-life means considering whether a product can be reused, refilled, recycled, composted or safely disposed of.

Landfill Waste
Material that is thrown away and sent to a landfill rather than being reused, recycled or composted. Choosing durable, reusable and refillable products can help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Long-Lasting
Designed to remain functional for an extended period rather than being frequently replaced. Our brass safety razor is designed to last a lifetime with proper care.

Low Waste
An approach that aims to minimize the amount of material sent to landfill by reducing, reusing, refilling, recycling and choosing durable products.

Low-Waste Bathroom

Microplastics
Tiny pieces of plastic, generally less than 5 millimetres in size. They can enter waterways and ecosystems through the breakdown of larger plastic items or through products and manufacturing processes.

Product Lifecycle
The different stages a product goes through—from sourcing raw materials and manufacturing to transportation, use and eventual reuse, recycling or disposal.

Recyclable
A material that can be collected and processed into new materials or products through an appropriate recycling system. Importantly, recyclable does not always mean that an item is accepted in every local recycling program.

Recyclable vs. Reusable
Recyclable means a material can potentially be processed into something new. Reusable means a product or package is designed to be used again in its original form. Reusing an item often extends its life before recycling becomes necessary.

Recycled Content
Material that has already been used and processed into a new product. We use packaging made from 100% recycled materials in several products.

Refill
A larger or alternative format designed to replenish an existing container rather than requiring a new primary package. We offer refills for products such as Body Oil, Ingrown Oil and Hand & Body Wash.

Renewable Resource
A natural resource that can replenish itself over time when responsibly managed. Plants such as agave are examples of renewable biological resources.

Responsible Sourcing
Choosing ingredients and materials with consideration for their environmental, social and ethical impacts, including where they come from and how they are produced.

Reusable
Designed to be used more than once rather than discarded after a single use. Our glass bottles, safety razor and refill formats are examples of reusable product design.

Reusable Packaging

Packaging designed to be kept and used multiple times rather than discarded after one use. Glass bottles and durable containers are examples of reusable packaging.

Single-Use
Designed to be used once before being discarded. Disposable plastic razors are an example of a single-use product that we aim to replace with a long-lasting alternative.

Sustainable Shaving

FSC-Certified
FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council. FSC certification indicates that forest-based materials come from responsibly managed sources according to FSC standards.

Glass Packaging
A durable packaging material that can be reused and recycled repeatedly. We choose glass over plastic for packaging our products due to the ability for glass to be easily recycled.

Post-Consumer Recycled Content
Material recovered from products that have already been used by consumers and then processed into new material.

Mycelium
The root-like network of a fungus. Mycelium can be grown into protective packaging materials that provide an alternative to petroleum-based foam. Our razors are protected in mycelium packaging inserts that can be composted.

Recycled Paper
Paper manufactured using recovered paper fibres rather than entirely new fibres.

Uncoated Paper
Paper without a plastic or other coating applied to its surface.

Cruelty-Free
Products that are not tested on animals. We do not test any of our products on animals.

Fair Wages
Compensation intended to provide workers with fair and equitable pay for their work.

Hand-Poured
A product that is manually poured rather than produced entirely through an automated manufacturing process. Our products are hand-mixed and hand-poured in our Vancouver studio.

Made in Canada
A product manufactured or assembled in Canada. Our safety razor is made in Ontario, coated in British Columbia and packaged in Vancouver.

Small-Batch
Producing products in relatively small quantities rather than through large-scale mass production.

Vegan
A product made without animal-derived ingredients.
