the many sizes and uses of sea sponges

We fell in love with sea sponges for being an all natural, antibacterial and compostable alternative to the traditional plastic loofah. While there are so many reasons why we love them, there are also a multitude of purposes for them.

Rather than being an abrasive exfoliant, sea sponges can be used to softly cleanse and soothe the skin. Exfoliation has its reason for being, sloughing off dead skin and helping to provide a closer shave, there is also another argument against exfoliating too much. Our skin has natural bacteria, and the layer of dead skin does serve a protective purpose.

Perfect for soft or sensitive skin 

As sea sponges come in many different sizes, we wanted to break down what we like to use each sized sponge for:

Extra Small Sponge

• These range from 1.5 - 2” in size.
• They are harder and provide more exfoliation than the medium & large sponges
• The extra small size makes them a great tool for applying make-up
• Due to their size they are also perfect for washing your face at the end of the day - whether removing makeup, using a cleanser, or just warm water and the sponge, they cleanse and exfoliate at the same time

***On a COVID note.... these are the perfect tool for giving your face a scrub after wearing a mask all day***

Small Sponge  

• These range from 2 - 3” in size 
• They are harder and provide more exfoliation than medium & large sponges
• Can be used as a facial cleanser or exfoliator 
• Great for exfoliating and washing the entire body

Medium Sponge

• These range from 3 - 4” in size
• They are very soft, absorbent and pliable  
• An alternative to abrasive exfoliants for people with sensitive or soft skin (including baby's skin) 
• Fit perfectly in your hand and will create a foaming lather with any soap when used against the skin in a circular motion

Large Sponge

• These beauty's range from 5 - 6” in size and are absolutely stunning!
• They are very soft, absorbent and pliable  
• There is something so luxurious and beautiful about these large sponges - I honestly could have it just sit on my bath tub as an art piece... but they are the perfect plastic free loofah for using on the entire body
• The large surface area helps for all the hard to reach areas 
• An alternative to abrasive exfoliants for people with sensitive or soft skin (including baby's skin)
