shave oil vs. shave soap

To shave using oil or to shave using soap? This has been one of the most popular questions we have been receiving from our community this season. The good news is there is no correct answer to this as all skin types and shaving preferences are unique so we suggest that you try both and let your skin decide for itself. In the meantime, here is some more information about shave oil and shave soap to act as a guide for you.

To shave using oil or to shave using soap? This has been one of the most popular questions we have been receiving from our community this season. The good news is there is no correct answer to this as all skin types and shaving preferences are unique so we suggest that you try both and let your skin decide for itself. In the meantime, here is some more information about shave oil and shave soap to act as a guide for you.

shave oil

  • When your skin is dry — flaky, scaly, itchy — you are more prone to irritation and it is caused by your skin lacking oil. Hydrating oil binds water to the skin giving it a BIG sip of water.
  • Oil is lipophilic, they can penetrate deep into the skin, trapping water and other moisturizing goodness in, while keeping toxins and other bad stuff out — adds an extra layer of protection.
  • Many oils have anti-inflammatory properties, helping to soothe irritated skin.
  • When used to shave, the oil will act as a smooth barrier from the safety razor blade from stripping off any moisture.
  • Acts as a natural lubricant for the skin that helps razor blades glide more easily, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable shave.
  • Prevents razor burn
  • Recommended if you are prone to irritation.
  • Oil softens your hair follicle making the blade easier to remove the hair.

shave soap

  • If you enjoy having a foamy lather when applying any sort of product then this might be the most appealing option for you.
  • A soap bar doesn’t have fillers like the air found in foams or lotions. It gives you the lubrication needed for shaving in a highly concentrated form.
  • Simplifies your routine — the suds will dissipate easily with water and it doesn’t leave any residue in your shower.
  • Removes the natural oils from your hair, allowing water to thoroughly penetrate the hair follicles making it softer and more prepared for shaving.
  • I would recommend using soap for your bikini area and then applying a lightweight oil post shave.
  • Recommended if you are more prone to ingrown hairs.
  • The more hydrated your hair follicles are, the less prone your razor blade is to pull on your hair during your removal ritual.

You can also use both in combination. We suggest using the shave soap and finishing with a light coating of the shave oil to protect your smooth skin from irritation and dryness. You know what’s best for your skin.
