Should you be shaving with oil or soap?!

I often get asked whether it’s better to shave with oil or with soap. To which I always answer, one isn’t better than the other. It totally depends on your skin type and the area of your body that you’re shaving—I personally use both!

As with all other skincare, I’d say the most important thing to note about what you choose to shave with is whether or not it contains all natural ingredients. The skin is our bodies’ largest organ and it absorbs what we apply to it, therefore, slathering yourself with harmful chemicals should be avoided at all costs. You can find lots of fancy shave creams and gels at your local drugstore, but I would be wary and read the ingredients carefully. Both our shave soap and shave oil are formulated with natural ingredients that don’t harm your skin or the earth. Here’s a bit about both:

SHAVE OIL

Our shave oil is light and hydrating, and protects your skin as you shave. With a little steam, the rejuvenating aroma of rosemary is carried around the room, reminding you to slow down and be gentle.

ingredients: almond oil, argan oil, vitamin e, and rosemary essential oil

Reasons you might prefer it:

/ Shave oil creates a thicker barrier between your razor blade and your skin so can offer a protective layer when shaving larger / bonier areas.
/ Shave oil hydrates your skin while you’re shaving so there’s no need to moisturize post shower.
/ Our shave oil includes vitamin e and rosemary essential oil which promote healing and reduce irritation respectively.

SHAVE SOAP

Our citrus shave soap creates a light lather that helps our safety razor glide over your skin without irritation.

ingredients: sodium olivate, sodium cocoate, sodium castorate, sodium cocoa butterate, sodium shea butterate, beeswax, chamomile flower, lemon, lemongrass, grapefruit, lime, bergamot, orange peel, and tangerine  essential oils

Reasons you might prefer it:

/ Shave soap creates just-the-right lather to help your safety razor glide smoothly over your skin.
/ Shave soap is more easily rinsed out of your razor between passes which can be beneficial when shaving areas with longer hair.
/ Shave soap leaves you feeling nice and clean without drying out your skin.

As we all know, everyone’s skin is different, so what works for one person won’t work for another. I personally like to shave my legs with our shave oil and opt for our shave soap when shaving both my underarms and bikini line. You might be totally different!

I’m happy to answer any questions you might have to help you decide between the two, but the very best way to know is to give both a try!
